An Important French Empire gilded bronze or ormolu Surtout de table and or Plateau attributed to Pierre Phillipe Thomire(1751-1843) . French Empire, circa: 1810-1820. Measuring: 27" across. Heavy weighing: 50+ pounds.

The neoclassical designed reticulated border framing the round mirror plateau is fully detailed on both the inside border and outside which is raised upon three lion paw feet.

This piece is in original superb Museum quality condition. Hand chased and then mercury gilded with Imperial amounts of gold. This is on par with any example found in any Museum or Important Institution housing French early 19th century decorative Arts.

The gilding is all original and still in tact. The rich and costly Process of mercury gilding is a fine example here as the matte finish areas of yellow gold are accented by highlighted areas of burnished brilliance for contrast. The piece still holds its original mirror which is rare even unto these types of pieces which have survived.

The bottom reveals its original early wood constructed support still bearing the original red paint from the period. It is marked in enamel with inventory marks, most probably from an estate of the period.
