Large Blue & White Transferware Platter by Thomas Fell, a famous Newcastle pottery, in the traditional Blue Willow Pattern with the four figures (three on the bridge, one on the boat), two birds, a tea house, orange trees, fence in foreground, and of course, the Willow Tree. The inner border of geometric design is usually found on the Traditional pattern. The border of the plate is also a Traditional pattern with the wheel or circular design. It has both an impressed mark and a printed mark. It is impressed with an anchor and the name Fell & Co. The printed mark for Fell is comprised of two seahorses surrounding a shield. I believe this platter dates to 1830's. From my research, I noted Fell added the & Co. around the year 1830. Fell produced pottery from 1817-1890. The platter is in good condition with light brown staining (more noticeable on the reverse side), crazing in accordance with age, and one tight spidery hairline on the reverse side. I find only one rough spot on the flanged rim. Measurements: 14 1/4 inches by 11 3/4 inches or 37cm. by 30cm.
Shipping and insurance are determined after checkout.
Layaway now for the holidays!
