19th Century Colt Model 1873 Single Action California Pattern Holster and Cartridge Belt

Estimate: $2000 - 3000
Medium weight, russet leather holster and .44 caliber cartridge belt rig for a Colt Model 1873 Single Action revolver with 7 1/2 inch barrel. The open-top holster is the "California Pattern" with distinctive, form fitted body and re-curved trigger guard profile. The holster has a single loop at the back attached to the body by three copper rivets. The toe of the holster has a sewn end plug. The front and back edges of the holster body and the belt loop are decorated with feather shaped tooling. The center of the body is tooled with a simple floral design surrounded by five-pointed stars. The russet, medium weight revolver cartridge belt is 36-inches long and 3-inches wide with 35 cartridge loops and decorated with cross-hatched machine tooling. The belt is constructed of two sections of leather double stitched at the seams with separate billet for the tongue and buckle. The billets are sewn and riveted to the belt body. The rectangular brass buckle has a recessed center bar. The tongue billet is stamped with a product number "4775" over the cartridge loop size "44". The rig is not maker-marked and probably dates from the late 1880s.
