Featured in this lot is this Tombstone, Arizona Territory jailhouse reinforced door circa 19th century and was housed at the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The jailhouse door features a wonderfully and professionally crafted reinforced forged iron construction and shows the original hinge attached to the door and shows the bars reinforced and meant to be a viable deterrence to the escape of jailed individuals. The door was identified by the museum curator Stephen Elliot. The condition of this Tombstone Jail Door is preserved with heavy oxidation due to exposure and has been pulled form the jailhouse proper but otherwise shows a preserved overall condition. The measurements jailhouse door is 75 3/4" x 32" x 12". The collective weight of the jail door is Museum tag that read: 1881 Tombstone Jaildoor, dug up from under city hall- it was used as fill when they built the hall in 1882. Obviously it had been through a fire - the big fire of 1881. just imagine, all the Earps and most of the outlaws would have had their hands on this door. Museum TT01.
