19th C. Tombstone, A.T Gambling Teetotum Tops
Featured in this lot is a Tombstone, A.T. Teetotum "Put or Take" gaming tops circa 19th century; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. There are two gaming tops in this collection both seemingly different inscriptions but same game of "Put or Take". The game is simple you ante and each player takes turns spinning the gaming piece following the instructions of the side facing up that it lands on. What makes these gaming tops special is they are both weighted to give a consistent choice each time you spin it. The gambling tops come complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Gambler's Tops - These devices were off-balance, so the gambler could spin it and be assured that a certain number always landed face up. The condition of this pair of Teetotum's is well preserved with a slight patina adorning the game pieces consistent with age but otherwise show a well preserved condition. The measurements of this pair of Teetotum's are 1 1/4" x 5/8" x 5/8" and 1 1/8" x 5/8" x 5/8". The collective weight of this pair of Teetotum's is 4oz.* S111, S112
