19th C. Plains Large File Dag Knife w/ Pewter
This is a large, fighting knife or dag knife from the Plains Native Americans of the 19th century. The knife is comprised of a large, blacksmith forge rasp file marked "CAST STEEL WARRANTED" on one side and a half wagon wheel castle tower hallmark on the other. The double edge blade shows a thick, long and slender body with curved pointed tip in dagger or dag form. The handle shows a poured pewter / lead inlay at the guard with a geometric design, in typical Plains pattern on a unique carved wood branch handle. The handle wood has a deep, original dark patina from honest age and use with a unique horn like branch pommel end. Truly a menacing weapon. Provenance: From a private Wisconsin collection. Measures overall 17.5"L x 3.25"W.*
