19th C. Oglala Sioux Birth Full Groove Axe
This is an original full-groove "Birth Axe" from the Oglala Sioux of the 19th Century. The piece shows a deep full groove axe heads with wonderful 1800's age. The piece comes with paperwork from The Guns of History and was reviewed and found to be carved with Togia Lakota language marks on the piece. It is said to be mark with names of Atacking Bear, Pipe, Coyote, Soldier and Blackfeet. In Oglala tradition, Pipe (mother) would have accounced to er husband Coyote (father) that a child was coming. Coyote would have told his parents Attacking Bear and Blackfeet and they made and gifted a small war axe for the grandson they prayed for. It is believed the child's name was Soldier before he was born. The piece comes with paperwork and is well kept. Measures 3 5/8" by 2.25" by 1.5".
