19th C. Northern Plains Rasp Dag Knife w/ Sheath
The lot features a fantastic 19th Century rasp file dag knife from the Northern Plains Native American Indians accompanied with a beaded sheath. The knife shows a dark richly patin'd yellow'd bone one piece grip secured to the knife with two iron pins. The blade shows a rasp or blacksmith file blade with typical dag knife profile with not as wide body, showing a median ridge running down the center with double edge blade, along with a nice honest patina. The sheath appears to be a an old but later addition showing hide on trade clothe with thread sewing and covered on the front with a geometric beadwork pattern also being thread sewn. The beads are chalk white and dark blue. The top has the belt tie of hide leather. The knife measures overall 10 3/8"L and the sheath is 15.75"L with tie belt strap by approx. 3"W.
