19th C. Montana Crow Beaded Hard Sole Moccasins
This is a fine set of 19th Century Indian hide and hard sole moccasins from the Crow Apsaalooke Indians of Montana. The set shows a classic medium height moccasin comprised of Indian tanned hide, likely Buffalo / Bison hide, sinew sewn with thick parfelche Buffalo / Bison hard sole bottoms with a nice foot worn pattern. The beadwork is cotton trade trade sewn with early glass trade seed beads in a pattern that has been documented and attributed to the Crow's of Montana. The beads include colors of greasy orange, lilac, chalk white, medium green, brown, and semi-transparent light blue. The sety has the original tongue and an Indina hide tie strap on both. The bases show some cracking, but are solid, the tops have some stiffening, but mostly supple. Little bead loss and well kept set that display beautifully with the bold Maltese cross pattern on the foot with border of beadwork at the base, which wraps around the entire foot. Utah collection. Each measures 9.5"L by 3 3/8"W by 3.75"H. Total weight of 6 oz.
