19th C. Man Of The North Wind Tilt Top End Table
For your consideration is this 19th century Man of The North Wind Philadelphia tilt top end table circa 1850-70s. North Wind, as the style is sometimes called, was popularized in the 19th and early 20th century often depicting the wind god Aeolus carved into the furniture. Typically the images would depict him either stoic or blowing wind in a “grotesque” manner. The tilt top table shows amazing attention to detail in the hand carved wood pieces and features a tilt top, four support beams around the center pedestal, and a large base with four carvings of the Man of the North Wind coming off of each point. The base and top of the table show intricate, gold, floral type painting throughout. The top of the table can be flipped upwards to store the table in smaller spaces. Overall, the table shows good condition with some slight wear from its antique age and use over the years, but no obvious signs of damage are noted. The table measures 30 1/2" tall with a diameter of 22 1/4".
