This is an original photograph of Cambria Mine near Newcastle, Wyoming circa 19th Century, likely from Locke & Peterson of Deadwood, South Dakota. The photograph is marked in fountain ink, “Entrance to Coal mine near New Castle Wyoming”. The image shows wrought iron large mining carts with the mining camp and several Wyoming Mining Town men, showing the entrance to the mine. A very clear, beautiful image. Several documented images dating to the 1890’s of the Cambria mine have come to the public market, all of which were from photographer Locke & Peterson of Deadwood, South Dakota. The Cambria mine was on the B. & M. R. R. (Burlington and Missouri Railroad) and a coal mining town. The operators of the mine were Kilpatrick Brothers & Collins. The deposits played out and the town was abandoned in the late 1920’s. Provenance: From the Jim Aplan Piedmont, South Dakota collection. Measures 8” by 5”. Good condition, clear image with some edge wear on the cabinet or boudoir card.
