Featured in this lot is this Apache polychrome basket tray circa 19th century. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted Devil's Claw and willow construction that shows stepped geometric patterns on both the inside of the basket and the outside wall of the basket with a naturally dyed dark brown dye tot he weave of the basket with natural color of the Devil's Claw. The tag on the bottom of the basket is a collector or museum tag that reads as follows: Cole - 676 - Apache. The condition of this Apache woven basket is preserved with some of the rim showing wear and missing segments and the material showing a patina consistent with the age of the basket. The measurements of this basket is 4 1/8" x 14 " x 14". The collective weight of this basket is 14oz.
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
