S. Hawken St. Louis signed half stock plains rifle in .42 caliber percussion with 34” medium weight octagon barrel, double set triggers, brass mounts, single key, and measures 49” overall. An old tag attached ismarked “S. Hawken St. Louis (1850-1855), .42 caliber sporting rifle in superb condition. I have won several matches with this rifle. One match had 70 shooters. 65GR, 3FG, 405-410 ball priced at $8500 in 1990s”. This tag isbelieved to be the writing of John Kocyla National Champion and most prominent So. California shooter who help train actors in the movie “The Last of the Mohigans”.The lock and barrel are in good condition with minorsurface rust and erosion. Good clear Hawken stamp. Original buck horn rear sight and old and large blade inserted into original base which is contemporary to use but not as old as the rifle. The action and triggers workvery well with quick release. The stock has been cleaned but shows traces of original dark stain and no evidence of sanding as the wood to metal fir is still “Proud” or high. (Antique) Est.: $7,500-$15,000
