Fine silk embroidery of man in classic farmer dress signed lower right. 12 1/2" x 9 1/2" with original paperwork stating by Mr. Seipo Sakamaki of Saitama, Japan. Sakamaki was born in 1894 and worked for Imperial Household . He embroidered the Emperors 1928 Coronation flag. The Japanese government requested him to continue work during the war to preserve the cultural art. After WWII he embroidered the imperial crest (Crysanthemum) on the cover of Japan's Ratification of Peace sent to the US. He was active in the 1950's. Obtained by U.S. Army Officer Major Cable on duty 1955-1960 in Japan. Mint in original frame in it's cardboard box. Arguably the best Japanese embroiderer of the 20th Century!! Est. $350-700
