199TH PENN. VOL.) (TINTYPE OF WILLIAM PETER: A 1/6th plate tintype of cocky Union Private William Peter, Co. A, 199th Penn. Vol. who is depicted wearing a nine-button frock coat while sitting in a chair next to a pillar. The buttons on his coat are tinted gold. Obtained from a Vermont estate sale the case is inscribed with ancestral writing: "great great Uncle William Peter, Virginia 1864". Organized in the later part of the war the 199th Penn. saw its share of fighting at the fall of Petersburg and the pursuit of Lee to Appomattox. Housed in a full papier-mGchT case while a brass mat, frame and glass protect the image. Minor bends affect the image, otherwise very good $250-350
