1999-W American Eagle one-tenth ounce proof coin issued by the United States Mint. Struck in 22-karat gold, the coin is composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper. It weighs 0.1091 troy ounces (3.393 grams) with a gold content of 0.1000 troy ounces (3.110 grams). Minted at the West Point facility, the coin features the "W" mint mark on the obverse. The obverse design, originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features a full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The design includes a rising sun and the Capitol building in the background. The reverse, by sculptor Miley Busiek, depicts a male bald eagle in flight carrying an olive branch above a nest containing a female eagle and eaglets, symbolizing family, strength, and American ideals. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD, and the denomination of 5 DOLLARS. This proof specimen is encased in a protective capsule and presented in a blue velvet case with gold corner accents and a hinged clasp.
