1998 1C Lincoln Cent--Broadstruck With Obverse Inden
1998 1C Lincoln Cent--Broadstruck With Obverse Indent--MS64 Red NGC. But that doesn't quite tell the whole story... The edge of the broadstrike is dished upward, resembling a die cap at the top of the obverse. It appears that what happened is the broadstrike was struck, then the indent occurred. When the indent struck the coin, the coin was just partially ejected and the force of the indent caused the extra flan at the top of the obverse to be raised around that side. The broadstrike itself is quite impressive as it appears there was no collar present at all to keep the metal from spreading and there are two large pie-shaped cracks from the expansion of the metal. A picture is worth a thousand words, so take a close look at Jody's photo that accompanies this spectacular lot. The mint red is complete on each side except where the zinc core shows. Lot:10898
