1997 United States Mint Set in Original Government Packaging
1997 United States Mint Set in Original Government Packaging. the 1997 Mint Set saw interest drop to the lowest level since 1963. Sales were down almost 500,000 from the prior year and fell below the one million mark. However, as is the case for many other US Mint products, the reduced demand during the period of availability makes the set more valuable on the secondary market since fewer sets are available. Each 1997 Mint Set includes uncirculated examples of the Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. A total of ten coins are included, comprised of one example each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. Additional tokens are included with large sized mint marks “P” and “D”. Packaging for the annual set was updated for the outer illustrated envelope. Against a marbled background was the title “The 1997 United States Uncirculated Coin Set”. Within the envelope were a certificate of authenticity signed by the Director of the Mint and two mylar packs containing the coins. The coins and token from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints were packaged separately.
