1994-W $5 American Gold Eagle 1/10 oz. Proof Coin
1994-W 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle Proof Coin issued by the United States Mint, struck at the West Point Mint and bearing the "W" mint mark. The coin is composed of 91.67 percent gold (22 karat), 3 percent silver, and 5.33 percent copper, giving it enhanced durability while preserving the intrinsic value of its precious metal content. The coin weighs 0.1091 troy ounces (3.393 grams) in total, with a net gold content of 0.1000 troy ounces (3.110 grams). The obverse of the coin features a design based on Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic 1907 $20 Double Eagle, depicting Liberty in full figure with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand symbolizing enlightenment and an olive branch in her left hand representing peace. Behind her, the Capitol building appears at the lower left, with a sunburst of rays in the background and fifty stars encircling the design. The date 1994 is engraved to the lower right of Liberty's figure. The reverse was designed by Miley Busiek and features a family of bald eagles. A male eagle is shown in flight carrying an olive branch, approaching a nest containing a female eagle and their hatchlings. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 5 DOLLARS. This proof coin is presented in its original dark blue velvet-covered clamshell presentation case with gold-tone corner fittings and embossed Great Seal of the United States on the front.
