1990-S 1C No S PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. This is a fascinating error that reveals quite a bit of bungling on the part of the United States Mint. It seems that a working obverse die intended for business strike production in the Philadelphia Mint was accidentally shipped west to San Francisco. Upon its arrival at the California branch mint, the die was sandblasted, polished, and chromium plated for proof production. All of this took place without a single Mint employee noticing that the die did not contain an S mintmark. We do not know exactly how many proof 1990 No S Cents were produced, but Lange (1996) estimates that only 100-150 examples are extant. Among the finest certified at PCGS, this gorgeous Superb Gem is fully lustrous, boldly contrasted, and virtually as struck. Population: 18 in 68 Deep Cameo, 7 finer (1/03). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
