From the Nick and Suzanne Nicholas Collection we have a 1989 Santa Clara Pueblo Seed Jar by Madeline Tafoya Naranjo, measures 3.5''H x 7''W, black on black, features Avanyu (Sea Serpent) on a highly burnished background, Madeline Naranjo Tafoya (Santa Clara) was born in 1915 and has been making pottery since 1931. She was taught by her aunts Rufina Baca and Petra Tafoya. She and her daughter Frances gather the materials from the Santa Clara Reservation and she fires her pottery outdoors. Her work is very high quality. She has won too many awards to mention. She has been making pottery all her life to earn a living. She is featured in several books and has passed her talent on to her daughter Frances Naranjo and her granddaughter Madeline E. Naranjo.
