1981 Ronnie Lott Game Worn Rookie Helmet
1981 Ronnie Lott Game Worn Rookie Helmet. One of the most prolific safeties the NFL has ever seen, Lott was a college All-American, an NCAA Hall of Famer and an NFL Hall of Famer. He was noted for his devastating hits and oversized shoulder pads, but his helmet was quite small by contrast. In his early years, Lott wore a medium shell "Bike" which required a red dot mask. He started out in his rookie season with a small cage, and switched to a full cage in late season. This helmet is from that rookie season and sports the requisite shade of gold (the hue of which varied even within seasons), the center striping and the "SF" side logos. Due to numerous paint jobs, the "Air Power" and size stampings on the lower back outer shell can barely be seen. The "Bike" front bumper is cracking but present, the mask and clips are original with wear, and Lott's high/low hookup snaps are in proper position relative to the side logos. The inner shell employs Bike's double bladder system and a lone "42" is markered into the shell surface above the left ear hole. The only missing pieces are the special, oversized jaw pads worn by Lott, and the reason for their absence is simple--they were a scarce commodity and had a better feel when broken in, so when this helmet was knocked out of service due to a hairline shell crack, the pads remained for the next helmet. A wonderful rookie representation, with the highest probability worn in the Super Bowl vs. the Bengals. Sourced from a former team employee. LOA from Lou Lampson.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Larg (view shipping information)
