Davis Cup Award won by Arthur Ashe in 1981 as the captain of the victorious U.S. Davis Cup team. Considered one of the greatest tennis pros of all time, Ashe was the very first African American player selected for the United States Davis Cup Team in 1963. The 1981 Davis Cup was held 11-13 December at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the U.S. team beat the Argentinian team 3 to 1. Award is smoky lucite in the shape of a rectangular prism, with a metallic globe suspended inside. Globe displays the continents and oceans in addition to tennis ball seams. White print to one side of the prism reads: ''Davis Cup Champions Cincinnati 1981'' and opposite, ''The International Tennis Federation''. Measures 2.5'' across, 5.5'' high and 2.5'' deep. Tiny nick to a top edge and very minor shelf wear, else fine. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
