1980 Hopi Kawai-i Kachina, measures 15''H x 10''W, beautifully hand painted in vibrant bright colors, embellished with feathers, hallmarked, Provenance on back reads: the horse kachina derives its name from the Spanish word for horse - caballo. Oddly enough this is not an old kachina and probably introduced less than ninety years ago. But it sill carries a Spanish name. He may usually be seen during the Soyohim or Mixed Kachina Dances but may also appear in the Bean Dance Parade, or in groups on Third Mesa and sometimes in the kiva dances. He is far less popular today than he was a few years ago.
