Anthony Dollar--Struck on a Washington Quarter Planchet--MS62 ANACS.</B></I> When the 11-sided Anthony dollar was introduced in 1979, many persons confused it with the Kennedy half dollar and, more often, the Washington quarter. Apparently this confusion also extended to the Philadelphia Mint, which struck this SBA dollar on the only slightly smaller quarter planchet. (The SBA dollar is 26.5 mm in diameter, versus 24.3 mm for the quarter.) As a result, most of the 11-sided border is off the flan, except for a small area from 5 to 9 o'clock on the obverse (and correspondingly on the reverse), due to a slightly off-center strike toward 2 o'clock. The dollar coin is a pretty, lustrous golden-gray.
