(1976-1978) Gould Inc. Token MS65 NGC. Dies of Pollock-5425, Baker-B707B. Nickel. Struck in pure nickel with a plain edge, 26.5mm. A well preserved example of this interesting issue, untoned and somewhat matte-like in texture. The NGC insert asserts the alloy is nickel. The Pollock reference lists the present designs only in titanium alloy (Pollock-5425), although Pollock-5440, without the TITANIUM legend, is listed as pure nickel. In the mid 1970s, the U.S. Mint decided that the crown-sized Eisenhower Dollar was too cumbersome to circulate readily, and planned its replacement with a smaller diameter base alloy Dollar coin. This project eventually led to the Anthony Dollar, but private companies contributed to the effort with private patterns of various alloys.
