<B>1974 Muhammad Ali Trunks Worn in Training for Foreman Bout.</B></I> White satin trunks in Ali's unmistakable black trim on white style date from the weeks leading up to his greatest triumph, his upset victory over George Foreman in the Kinshasa, Zaire battle known forever after as "The Rumble in the Jungle." The center front waistband holds a white "Everlast" manufacturer's label with the slogan "Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali" in block lettering at the lower edge. On the right leg is found a vintage black marker inscription which reads, "Muhammad Ali, Peace, 6/25/74, Deer Lake, Pa," the location denoting that of Ali's rural training camp. When one considers the fact that Ali was working to reacquire the Heavyweight Championship belt which had been unfairly stripped from him seven years earlier for his refusal to participate in the Vietnam draft, the significance of the offered lot becomes quite clear. A letter from noted boxing expert Craig Hamilton expresses that the trunks had been given as a gift to a female friend of Ali at the time, and were originally acquired from her directly. The trunks exhibit fine wear and very minor staining, but still present marvelously, with the inscription maintaining the same boldness it enjoyed upon its application.
