1973 De Tomaso Pantera Coupe 4.6 L DOHC 32-valve Ford Cobra engine rated 400+ horsepower, electronic fuel injection, ZF five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension with adjustable air shocks and anti-roll bars, four-wheel disc brakes; wheelbase: 98.4"- Alejandro DeTomaso was born in Argentina to a wealthy Italian cattle ranch family. Rather than settle for the life of a cattle baron, DeTomaso yearned to be a race car driver. In the early 1950s, he managed to achieve that goal, driving borrowed Italian cars in local races. In 1959, Alejandro founded the auto construction firm, DeTomaso Automobili, in Modena. Like many racecar builders, he hoped to emulate Ferrari and build road cars that would embody the qualities of his racing cars and be fast agile machines. His first efforts began with building the Vallelunga, a small fastback coupe, and later the more familiar Mangusta. These cars exhibited what became a DeTomaso hallmark; to feature exotic styling on the outside but always have an off-the-shelf production engine under the lid. These successful designs were noticed worldwide.
