1972-S Uncirculated Eisenhower Blue Pack Silver Dollar with Original U.S Mint Packaging
1972-S Uncirculated Eisenhower "Blue Pack" Silver Dollar with Original U.S Mint Packaging. When the United States Mint in San Francisco struck the .400 silver coins, it actually created two different versions: Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated. So as not to confuse the silver coins with the circulation-strike copper-nickel coins, they were issued exclusively to collectors in unique "Blue" and "Brown" packs. The uncirculated are in the poly pack..otherwise known as the Blue Pack while the proof is in the hard plastic lens and then placed in a display box...this version is known as the Brown Pack. This is the Brilliant Uncirculated, "Blue" packaged version of the Silver coin. The coin is protected in special packaging, along with a Blue U.S Mint Token that states the coin is an "Uncirculated Silver Dollar." A Blue envelope completes this distinctive packaging. Both of the Blue and Brown packs were struck each year from 1971-1974. None were minted in 1975, due to the fact that the U.S. Mint was preparing for the Bicentennial issue. Due to the high cost of silver, it is unlikely that the Ike Dollar will ever be struck again, in silver. All Eisenhower Silver Dollars (Proof and Unc) were struck at the San Francisco Mint and bear the "S" Mint mark above the date on the obverse. The obverse design honors World War II general and 34th president, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Based on the official Apollo 11 insignia, the reverse celebrates the first lunar landing. Untouched in their original government issued packaging with envelope and COA. Mintage of these Silver coins were very small - and because the coins were made available ONLY in "Brown" or "Blue" packaging, they are difficult to find.
