Harrison Schmitt typed letter signed. Letter on NASA letterhead from the Apollo 17 astronaut is dated 14 December 1971 and addressed to a Keith Trott in New York. Letter reads in part, ''Thank you very much for your expression of interest in my assignment to the Apollo 17 mission. I hope that we can continue to live up to your expectations and that we can serve the country and mankind through our continued exploration of space -- the earth's frontier. In answer to your questions, I have no definite plans beyond Apollo 17; that will come later. The backup crews are as follows: [list of Apollo 7-17 backup crews] Sincerely, [signed] Harrison H.
