1970s Valeri Kharlamov Worn Soviet National Team
1970s Valeri Kharlamov Worn Soviet National Team Jacket. A star among stars, Valeri Kharlamov used his incredible speed and hockey IQ to establish himself as the premier left winger for his CSKA Moscow side during an era that Soviet hockey was at its strongest. Forced to find other ways to excel due to his lack of brawn, Kharlamov elevated his on-ice play to the cerebral level, outwitting his opponents with trickery and guile. A terror in international play, few liked to see Kharlamov as he dominated his appearances against American professionals -- collecting 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points in 40 games played against them. This led to a nasty rash of on-ice brutality that saw Kharlamov suffer many injuries due to his rivals' cheap shots. The team-issued CCCP national jacket that we present here comes from an early 1970s tour of Canada and the United States embarked upon by the Soviets and is Kharlamov's personal garment. The red nylon jacket was manufactured by Winnipeg's New West Sportswear and includes embroidered "C.C.C.P." and criss-crossed hockey stick and puck over the heart. Embroidered verso reads "KHARLAMOV 17 C.C.C.P.", with additional embroidered "17"s on each sleeve. Wear is light but apparent in the form of wear to the embroidery and some light staining. The area of the "17" on verso appears to have undergone some sort of number change. Tremendous rarity courtesy of one of the most-feared and gifted players to emerge from the powerful Soviet hockey machine.

Shipping: Clothing, Costumes & Jerseys (view shipping information)
