1970-S 1C Doubled Die MS65 Red and Brown NGC. FS-029, DDO-1. The obverse doubling is most readily evident on the letters in LIBERTY and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Both David Lange (The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents) and Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton (The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties) agree that examples of DDO-1 are "extremely rare" in all grades. Lange even feels that this variety is so rare that most collectors should consider it uncollectible, and Fivaz and Stanton opine that it may be the rarest variety in the entire Lincoln Cent series. This is the first example of this Mint error that we have offered in two years. The otherwise lustrous, cherry-red surfaces exhibit the slightest muting of color in a few isolated areas. Every bit the Gem, there are no singularly mentionable abrasions, and the striking detail is pleasingly sharp in all areas. We anticipate significant bidder competition for this genuinely rare Lincoln Cent error. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
