"Broadway" Joe Namath was the biggest star in the NFL. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, winning the national championship as a senior. He was selected first overall by the New York Jets in the 1965 AFL draft. During his five AFL seasons, Namath was a two-time MVP and twice led the league in passing yards, while winning an AFL championship and a Super Bowl. Namath is best remembered for guaranteeing his heavy underdog AFL Jets would win the Super Bowl in 1969. They'd go on to defeat the NFL's Baltimore Colts in one of the greatest sports upsets of all time. The Super Bowl victory was the first for an AFL franchise. Namath received Super Bowl MVP honors in the game, while also becoming the first quarterback to win both a college national championship and a major professional championship. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. Namath cards are among the most collectible in the football hobby. This card is from that legendary 1969 season and is graded an attractive 4.5 VG-EX+ by SGC.
