1968 San Francisco Assay Office Gold Ingot. 9.16 ounces
1968 San Francisco Assay Office Gold Ingot. 9.16 ounces. The Assay Office in San Francisco officially opened in 1854 when the mint opened. The Assay Office continued to operate after the mint closed in 1955. According to Fred Holabird, "In 1962, the name was officially changed to the US Assay Office, San Francisco, under which capacity it still serves today, including the housing of some of America's silver bullion." This dated gold ingot is untraced in the records we have kept over the past couple of years. The large circular stamp on the top side is faintly impressed and 999.9 FINE is located at the bottom of that side. The number 67 is on the top, short side and 196 is on the other short side. The weight is partially weakly imprinted on the back side. The OZS is barely discernible, while 9.16 is strong. The top side is obviously hairlined, but the surfaces are bright throughout as the ingot is made from pure gold.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
