1967, Space Suit Cooling Unit (8x12x12") A rare unit seen in photos as the astronauts leave Hanger S reroute to the launch pad prior to flight. This unit is a form of air condition that uses liquid oxygen to provide air circulation and cooling to the astronauts inside their spacesuits (which obviously were airtight). The ID tag on top of this unit reads: "Ventilating Unit, Pressure Suit, Hand Portable, Stock No. RX4120-977-2989-S030, serial No. PPS 197". There is a "Flow Control" valve, a "Cool Day/Hot Day" toggle and a "Content Gauge, Lock/Release" on the top of the unit. The carry handle is a scale (used to measure the remaining lox as a measure of volume still available (?)) A 36" flexible rubber, insulated hose extends from one side. A fascinating item that was as much a part of the spacesuit here on earth as was the helmet. An extremely rare unit that we have seen only once before. Estimate: $ 1,000 - 1,500
