This is one of the key items of this entire auction! It is a vintage character head from the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. This head was most likely part of the opening day original ride in 1967. Though it is hard to say for sure, the old man in the rocking chair smoking the pipe at the beginning is the most likely placement, but this may also be one of the Pirates in the cell trying to entice the dog towards the end.
This same character was also used for The Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland as seen in the screen shots provided for provenance, and reference to both attractions.

This was removed from service by the early to mid 1970's, and has been in private hands ever since. Over the years it may have been re-purposed for other attractions. It has obviously been repainted several times. It is made out of fiberglass, and measures 14 in tall x 9 in deep x 9 in wide. There is an access panel cut, and riveted back on in the rear. The water tube in the mouth may not be original to the piece. Though it may have smoked the pipe with water mist.

This prop head comes with a hand signed LOA, and a photo of Stephen P. Ehlers's original Disney worker ID is provided here as further provenance.

This piece came from the collection of artist Stephen P. Ehlers who worked for Disney from the mid 60's to the mid 70's, and also worked for Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags, along with other theme parks and shows.

[The Screen Shots are for provenance to match the piece. Photo number 10 references another example of this exact head that was sold last year for $4600.00 at another auction. That head was just a paint test mock up. The one offered here is the actual original ride prop. I respectfully re-post the results, and the link to that other auction here from public record. If the paint test mock up is worth nearly $5,000.00, what is this actual ride used prop worth? Hit the link below to see the other lot, and price realized.
