<B>1966 U.S. Department of Commerce Awarded Gold Medal.</B></I> Also includes three other medals. The first was awarded to Garrett C. Tewinkel 1909-1999 for exceptional service; he received this medal while working for the Coast and Geodetic Survey in Washington, D.C. The medal was engraved by Frank Gasparro, the engraver of the Lincoln Memorial cent reverse. It measures about 40 mm, weight of 51.5 gm of (tested 14-kt) gold. The reverse is engraved with the name Garrett C. Tewinkel February 14, 1966, and comes in what appears to be the original case of issue. The next medallions were struck by the Medallic Art Company of New York for the centennial of the Alaska Purchase, 1867-1967, a matched pair of silver (63 mm, 164.3 gm .999 fine silver) and a bronze version; each has serial number 1224 edge-stamped. The last medallion was struck in Italy for the Politecnico di Milano (School Medal) unnamed and stamped 800 (fineness?).
