This 1965 Mercury Comet has since been modified in the style of the limited-production A/FX Cyclone produced for 1964-65 racing seasons. The build was completed by Randy Delisio’s Performance and Restoration of Lyons, New York and featured installation of a 482ci V8 from Robert Pond Motorsport, a five-speed Tremec manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential. Additional modifications include a repaint in black, 15? wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, interior updates, and more
The body features a fiberglass front bumper, fenders, and A/FX-style hood and was refinished in its current black during the 2008 build according to the seller. The paint is shown up close in the photo gallery below along with Cyclone and 427 badges.
Staggered chrome 15? Cragar SS wheels are fitted with 26?×7.5? Hoosier Pro Street radials up front and 295/65 Mickey Thompson slicks at the rear. Disc brakes are equipped at all four corners.
Red vinyl upholstery and door panels are fitted in place of the factory black trim and are accompanied by a color-coordinated dash, while the rear seats have been omitted in favor of matching carpets. The Hurst floor shifter features a cueball knob.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer displaying 300 miles, with actual mileage unknown. Additions include a dash-top Sun Super Tach, auxiliary oil pressure and temperature gauges, ignition and fuel toggle switches with flip-up guards, and a push-button start.
The all-aluminum 482ci V8 was built by Robert Pond Motorsport in October 2008 with the following components:
• RPM block with SCAT cast steel crankshaft
• SCAT H-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts
• CP-Carillo pistons with 10.5:1 compression
• Crane hydraulic roller lifters, Smith Brothers pushrods, Erson roller rocker arms
• CNC-ported Stage II cylinder heads with 2.19? intake/1.74? exhaust valves
• FAST XFI fuel injection system with individual throttle bodies and velocity stacks
• HTP exhaust headers
• Dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers
• Canton seven-quart oil pan with trap doors
