1965 1C Lincoln Cent--Struck on 90% Silver Dime Planchet--MS63 NGC. 2.5 grams. A transitional pattern issue spanning the change from silver to clad composition. These extremely rare errors were created when a small number of silver dime planchets remained inside one of the Mint's large tote bins when the bin was then filled with cent planchets for production, and the few remaining dime planchets found their way to the cent press. All errors of the "wrong planchet" class were created in the same manner. Although 1964-dated silver dimes were minted in 1965, few examples of this particular transitional error were produced. The present example is a brilliant Mint State piece with frosty silver luster and attractive light gray surfaces. It is sharply struck with only a few details at the edge of the undersized planchet.

Coin Engraver: Victor D.
