1964 10C SMS MS68 PCGS. These enigmatic coins first came to the attention of numismatists in 1993-1994 as part of sets that contained one each of the 1964 Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar. We do not know exactly under what circumstances these sets were prepared, but it seems likely that the Philadelphia Mint produced these experimental 1964-dated coins sometime during mid-1965 as part of its quest for a suitable replacement for proof coins. (By the terms of the Act of September 3, 1964, the 1964-dated dies would still have been in use at that time.) This is our first offering of one of the Roosevelt Dimes from these special sets. Both the obverse and reverse dies had been extensively polished prior to delivery of this coin, as evidenced by numerous raised polish lines (as produced) throughout the fields. The strike is razor sharp in all areas--another feature that points to great care during striking. Both sides exhibit a shimmering, satiny texture beneath an overlay of delicate golden iridescence. Advanced Roosevelt Dime specialists would be wise to enter strong bids for this important and rare specimen. Population: 3 in SMS MS68, with none finer (1/03). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
