1963 Dickie Kerr's Last Autograph?? This pint-sized southpaw arrived at Comiskey Park as a rookie in the fateful 1919 season, laboring under the tight-fisted rule of Charles Comiskey along with Shoeless Joe and the gang. But while the "Eight Men Out" took a dive for the money in the end, Kerr remained pure as the driven snow, pitching a three-hit shutout in Game Three of the Series, and going the distance again in a ten-inning Game Six victory. It was a hopeless cause of course, and it proved to be the last time that Kerr would throw a pitch in October. Here we offer what is almost certainly the final autograph ever penned by this luckless Black Sox rookie, an arthritic signature inked to a collector less than three weeks before his passing. Kerr's wife inscribed in the wide upper margin of the collector's letter, "Best wishes to Jim from," with Kerr only able to manage the eight letters of his name himself. On the back of the page is a brief note from Mrs. Kerr, reading, "Dick is very Bad and may be gone before you get this, but he signed it so I could send it to you illegible ." All ink is as strong as the day it was applied, and the page has original mailing folds but no other condition concerns. An exceedingly scarce autograph from a dying veteran of the game's greatest scandal. LOA from PSA/DNA.
