1960s Isaac Magnin & Company Mink Stole Cape
Featured in this lot is this 1960s Isaac Magnin & Company mink stole cape. I. Magnin & Company was a well known San Francisco based department store that was founded in 1876 by Mary Ann Magnin and named after her husband Isaac. Originally, the couple sold baby clothing which was made by Mary Ann and sold by Isaac. The following year, they started a business selling the clothing along with feminine hygiene products. They quickly grew their product line by adding a variety of bridal clothes, lingerie, and trousseau items that were all made from stunning but costly European fabrics and laces. I. Magnin earned a reputation for offering only the best products. The Great San Francisco Earthquake in 1906 completely destroyed their store, but that did not deter the Magnins. Up until the construction of a new store, they continued to sell their products from their house. The family started opening branch stores across California in the subsequent ten years. Bullock's, a Los Angeles department store, purchased the stores from the family in 1944, and in 1964 Bullock's joined Federated Department Stores. Then, in 1988, Macy's took over Federated. By 1994, the final I. Magnin locations had either closed or switched to using the Macy's name. The mink stole cape shows gorgeous colors of light and dark browns, black and gray and features a small hook and eye to connect the stole cape in the center, keeping it secure. The white tag reads, "I. Magnin & Co." in black lettering. The stole cape shows good condition overall with no signs of wear or damage present. The coat stole cape measures 14" L x 27" W.
