1960 NY Yankees WS Game 5 Line-Up Card PSA 1960 New York Yankees World Series Game Five Line-Up Card
1960 New York Yankees World Series Game Five Line-Up Card from the Casey Stengel Collection. An early melt-down saw Art Ditmar driven from the mound in the second inning, having surrendered three runs to the Pirates in Game Five at Yankee Stadium, a lead that Pittsburgh would carry through to the end of the game. Stengel's troubled work is clearly noted on this card that hung in the Yankee dugout that day, as he he writes "Arroyo P 2 inn" to note the change, then "Stafford P 3 in" after Arroyo gave up a run in the third. Then he notes that Hector Lopez pinch hits in the seventh for Stafford with "Lopez Bat 7 inn," and finally "Duren P 8 inn." The rest of the line-up stays largely constant, with Maris and Mantle penciled into the number two and four spot in the batting order respectively. A notation beside number six batter Howard reads "Berra 8 inn Bat" to note the Hall of Famer's stepping in as a pinch hitter. Amidst these frenzied notations resides a flawless "Stengel" autograph, authorizing the order. This is one of two World Series line-up cards from the collection of Stengel that we offer in this Signature auction, and they represent, to the best of our knowledge, the only post-season specimens ever to reach the auction block. Measures approximately 4x5", with no noteworthy condition problems. LOA from PSA/DNA.
