Karl Spooner and Sandy Koufax, both left-handed pitchers, broke in with Brooklyn at the same time. Koufax, the "bonus baby" with little experience, got all the attention, but struggled out of the gate and took years to reach his potential. Spooner, on the other hand, had put together some eye popping minor league seasons. Unlike Koufax, Spooner came out and blew away the baseball world. In his very first start he threw a complete game 3-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts. In his second start, he again threw a complete game shutout (4-hitter), this time with 12 K's. His 27ks in his first two MLB starts is still a record. The honeymoon didn't last long however as arm trouble began at the beginning of his second season, and within three seasons was out of baseball completely. This, his second card, is graded a super sharp 8 NM-MT by PSA!
