1956 Roger Maris Game Used Pre-Rookie Bat
1956 Roger Maris Game Used Pre-Rookie Bat. Presented for your consideration is almost certainly the earliest Roger Maris game used bat ever to reach the auction block. Louisville Slugger factory records show that Maris' orders for this block lettered style of Hillerich & Bradsby O16 in the Spring of 1956, before moving on to signature models for his Major League career beginning in the Spring of 1957. The thirty-five inches of length and thirty-five ounces of weight perfectly match the records for this era, as does the round knob style and standard finish. Expert John Taube notes the omission of the "Powerized" markings to the right of the trademark, but states in his letter that he believes this to be "a factory error, which does not affect the authenticity of the bat." Fellow bat expert Dave Bushing choose the adjective "Significant" to describe use, pointing to heavy ball marks and deeply embedded stitch marks, as well as a fourteen-inch crack in the handle that ended the bat's service to the future single season Home Run King. For those collectors who wish to stand apart from the rest, this historic lumber is calling your name. Graded MEARS A7. Graded PSA GU6. LOA from Dave Bushing A7.
