1956 Packard Carribean Convertible 374 cid overhead valve V8 engine with two-four barrel carburetors rated at 310 horsepower, automatic transmission, torsion bar self-leveling suspension, four-wheel power drum brakes; wheelbase: 127Ô-When the once-mighty Packard released its 1953 Caribbean, sporty cars weren't attracting numerous sales at that time. However, they certainly attracted buyer attention and brought countless prospects into the showroom, and that helped move other cars in the line-up. The brainchild of new company president, James Nance, was the flashy top-of-the-line Packard Caribbean convertible. The Caribbean borrowed visual cues from the earlier two-seat Pan American show car and now was a full-sized model derived from Packard's standard convertible. The convertible in this lot is among the most coveted of all Caribbeans. It is appropriately trimmed in the tri-tone color scheme and sports four wire wheels with wide white wall tires.
