1956 Buick Special Riviera Two-Door Hardtop Coupe 322 cid overhead valve V8 engine rated at 220 horsepower, four-barrel Rochester carburetor, automatic transmission, independent front semi-independent rear suspension and four-wheel drum brakes; wheelbase: 122"- The Riviera is most often thought of having originated in 1963 as BuickÒs upscale sports/ luxury car. The truth be known, Buick used the name in 1949 to describe the Milestone first ÑpillarlessÒ production hardtop body style. The sleek open convertible-like design proved to be very appealing, and by the mid Fifties, was implemented on all models including the Special, Century, Super, and the top-shelf Roadmaster. The Riviera name was used as a regular model nomenclature until 1999 when it was discontinued by the geniuses at G.M. Fortunately, the original Riviera hardtop can still be seen in this wonderful 1956 Special. It is fully dressed with all of BuickÒs signature styling cues: Swept-side trim, Venti-port Fender ornamentation, gun sight mascot, and a two-tone paint combination that perfectly reflects 1950Òs auto fashion. This Special also runs a 322 V8 and Dynaflow automatic
