1956 1C PR68 Red Deep Cameo PCGS. Only five examples of the '56 Lincoln have received this lofty grade from PCGS, and not a single finer example has been certified by the California grading company (10/06). Rick Tomaska, perhaps the nation's leading expert on cameo coinage, wrote about this date: "Ultra-heavy cameo examples do exist, but they are quite rare. The few examples that have surfaced usually exhibit lovely obverse contrast with little or no reverse contrast. This is not a major concern to cameo cent collectors, since the design of the wheat cents makes detecting cameo contrast on the reverse quite difficult anyway." Tomaska's reference, Cameo and Brilliant Proof Coinage of the 1950 to 1970 Era, is useful to the serious collector of these proof issues. This example has rich and deep orange color with pristine mirrored surfaces and heavy mint frost, especially on Lincoln's portrait.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
