1955 Fender Stratocaster used by the Yardbirds
1955 Fender Stratocaster used by the Yardbirds in 1965. This second year of production Stratocaster was one of the very first ever to arrive in England. It was purchased as a used instrument in 1959 by the current owner, a member of the Liverpool group The Mersey Lads. The band was signed to MGM, and played the same venues as the other Liverpool groups, including The Cavern Club, made famous by The Beatles. Relocating to New York, they became the house band for The Rolling Stone Discotheque, where many famous acts used their equipment to perform their hits. Included with this lot are 7 beautiful photographs of The Yardbirds at The Rolling Stone Discotheque during their September 17, 1965 performance. Five of these images are currently unpublished, and two are featured in the Jeff Beck biography Jeff's Book. The guitar is original except for the following modifications: Schaller tuners were added and a refret done in 1970. The original 3-way switch was replaced with a 5-way, and the original first variation spring cover plate had its holes enlarged in the 1960's.The guitar's original tweed "center pocket" case has had the handle replaced. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
