1955/55 1C Doubled Die Obverse MS64 Brown PCGS. According to Lange's The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents (2005), that these spectacular error coins exist at all is a minor miracle. They were produced during a midnight-8 a.m. shift only because the error die escaped the attention of seven persons--the hub press operator, the heat-treater, the die shop foreman, the engraver, the coining room foreman, the die-setter, and the press operator--and because they were already mixed in with nonerror cents by the time examples were discovered. Then, rather than condemn an entire night's production of 10 million cents, the newly appointed chief coiner of the Philadelphia Mint chose to let them into circulation.
This piece offers glimpses of mint red clinging to the obverse periphery and protected areas on the reverse, with medium-brown coloration elsewhere. PCGS has certified only five Brown pieces finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
